Is that cancer, Mum?” 11-year-old David Langton-Gilks asked his mother, Sacha, as he stared at the picture of his brain showing a massive tumour the size of the base of a wine glass at the back of his head. “Oh my God,” Sacha remembers thinking, “what am I supposed to say? How can you remove a tumour that size from my child’s brain without killing him or turning him into a vegetable? Do I have to answer him – can’t I leave it to the experts or his dad?”
