When Matthew Widdup’s brother, Ian, died of a brain tumour in 2006, Matthew decided to run a half marathon in Ian’s memory. After finishing the half marathon, Matthew decided that he would progress to the next step and in 2007 he ran his first full marathon. Not quite content with that, Matthew ran a further 8 marathons between 2007 and 2010.
After running this series of marathons, Matthew realised that he wanted to set himself a goal. He realised that each of the marathons he had run began with a different letter, so he decided that he would run a different marathon for every letter of the alphabet, aiming to complete all 26 marathons by 2018 before his 40th birthday.
This gruelling challenge is in aid of The SDBTT Ian Widdup Fund into which the total raised from Matthew’s marathons will be channelled.

We wish Matthew the best of luck with all his fundraising and are so grateful he has taken on this amazing challenge on behalf of SDBTT and Ian.
