Robert Lilley passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2005. A fun-loving husband to Gill and father to Gavin and Nathan. Rob lived life to the full, he had a sharp wit and strong character all of his own and people loved and respected him.
Rob was a carpenter in his early years but then changed his career completely – he and his brother and business partner bought a derelict cinema in Bridgwater. Together they completely gutted it and it re-opened as The Palace Nightclub – this became Rob’s life. He loved every minute of the Club, he put so much into the town and was well known and liked.
Suddenly our lives changed. Rob had a short illness and was diagnosed with a Gioblastoma tumour in August 2004. But we had hope as it was operable. He underwent surgery in September 2004 followed by radiotherapy.
He was doing so well, enjoying his life again, staying so strong and positive; his strength was unbelievable. We went on a cruise together which was wonderful.
Then came the MRI scan in July 2005 showing the tumour growing again, chemotherapy was arranged but Rob’s balance was not good and he only underwent one course of chemo. Unfortunately Rob was becoming an invalid unable to walk and speak properly and depending on us all, but he never gave up hope and we as a family never gave up either but the tumour took over, tragically taking him from us in September 2005.
We have now set up an Umbrella Fund with SDBTT, hoping to raise money to help others with this cruel disease. Our first event was held on April 30th 2006 – a cabaret night with guests from London’s West End.
