Mother of toddler with a brain tumour organises fundraising ball
When Fiona Collins found out that her 20 month old son, Luke, had been diagnosed with a brain tumour it was a heartbreaking shock for her and her family. Learning that Luke had a rare tumour that attacked his optic nerve was a traumatic and hard time and quite naturally, brought everyone’s world crashing down around them.
Unable to sit back and do nothing, Fiona and her husband decided to organise a charity ball to help raise funds and awareness of brain tumours. With the help of her brother in law, Pete and her family and friends, Fiona managed to get a number of local businesses to help out and even persuaded footballer Alan Shearer to donate a signed shirt for auction.
With a great deal of hard work and determination the ball took place on 12th August at The Village Hotel in Newcastle. The night was a fantastic success, bringing together close friends, family and the local community. Through great ticket sales and a tempting auction held on the night, the ball raised a phenomenal £7,580.
SDBTT would like to extend a huge thank you to Fiona and her family for organising this event at such a difficult time.
