Our team

We are a small, efficient charity, with just 20 staff.  The senior management team comprises:

Sarah Lindsell, CEO
Sarah LindsellSarah joined the charity in April 2011 from The Challenge, the leading provider of the Government’s new National Citizen Service where she was Director for External Affairs and Fundraising. She also worked with Shaftesbury Partnership, a social reform ‘think and do tank’ where she led on strategic planning. Sarah has worked at a senior level in the voluntary sector for over 20 years and is committed to social justice. She joined The Challenge from The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award where she held the role of UK Services Director leading on marketing, operations and infrastructure. Prior to this she was CEO of Caritas, a lobbying and advocacy federation addressing poverty and injustice. Sarah has also been CEO of a grass roots charity working with those living in poverty as well as undertaking research at LSE and Cardiff University. Sarah has a Masters in Voluntary Sector Management from LSE and a First Class degree in Social Policy.

Julia Trusler, Head of Research and Policy
Julia joined the organisation in 2008, having previously worked in biomedical journal publishing and at the Nuffield Foundation, for the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. She was the first research grants staff member to be appointed at the charity, and since joining the organisation has been involved in reviewing its grants activities, including its funding initiatives, award terms and conditions, peer review policies and data management. Julia has a degree in biomedical sciences and a Masters in medical ethics and law.

Kate Taylor, Head of Support and Information Services
Kate joined SDBTT in April 2012 bring with her over eight years of service management experience in the voluntary sector.   Previous to joining the organisation Kate worked with Victim Support and The Stroke Association developing and designing user lead services within health, community and justice settings.  In addition to the management of services Kate has also worked with clinical networks in the delivery, informing and training of GP’s in stroke awareness and initiated a project with a nationally accredited university to improve the communication and patient relation skills of trainee therapists.  Kate has a wealth of experience of working with a diverse range of individuals including victims of crime, stroke survivors and their families, people living with HIV, youths, and young adults partaking in vocational education. Kate’s role at SDBTT is to develop and build upon our current support and information provision with aim to reaching and supporting a greater number of people living with or affected by brain tumours.

Claire Wormley, Head of Fundraising
Claire has over eleven years of marketing and fundraising experience delivering considerable impact for each organisation she has worked for. Claire’s core skills were built up during 9 years at the NSPCC where she specialised in delivering special and national events and corporate partnerships. Claire’s proudest achievements are building a conservation charity in Africa from scratch, securing a US$2m gift from a foundation, raising the funds to build a new school and village for the poverty stricken San Bushman community, raising over £570,000 from a single event and generating a total of over £1.6million for the NSPCC. Claire is leading the SDBTT fundraising team to generate over £2m this financial year. SDBTT are 100% reliant on voluntary donations through a variety of income streams including Trusts & Foundations, Corporate Partnerships, Community Fundraising, Individual Donations, In Memory Gifts, Legacies and Major Donors.

Louise Taylor, Head of Marketing and Communications
Louise has 18 years charity and commercial experience in developing and implementing complex and effective communications and marketing projects. Her career began with marketing specialist industrial equipment, driving demand through DM, events and PR and working with customers globally. Louise then moved on to work for Newsweek, the international newsmagazine. Whilst there she introduced e-commerce solutions for subscribers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa and managed marketing campaigns with a budget of up to $10m each year. Most recently she spearheaded the rebrand of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which necessitated rewriting and redesigning all materials, developing a new website and implementing it throughout a complex organisation and hundreds of partners. In addition Louise managed all national non-fundraising events, for over 16,000 people per year. Louise’s role at SDBTT is to develop and manage the charity’s brand and raise the profile of the charity through more effective internal and external communications.

Carole Dear, Head of Finance
Carole joined SDBTT in 2008 as its first Head of Finance and has more than thirty years experience in the commercial sector. Joining the Trust was a personal fulfilment of working within the brain tumour charity sector that she had been directly affected by. Her experience includes roles as Finance Director of a reprographic company with a £3 million turnover and Management Accountant/Company Secretary for a commercial vehicle dealer with a £10 million turnover.
