On 26th September this year, Iain Rock, a GP from Berkshire, and a former university friend of his will be running seven marathons in seven days along the Wainwright Way. This incredible challenge will take Iain 190 miles coast-to-coast from St Bees in Cumbria, through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors to Robin Hoods Bay on the North Sea with climbs totalling more than 2,000 feet.
Iain is completing this staggering challenge in memory of Rachael Drew D’Antonio. Rachael had been the best friend of Iain’s wife, Clare, from the age of six until her death in March this year from a Grade 2 Astrocytoma. Rachael was first diagnosed at the age of 33 and over the next seven years battled the disease bravely and with determination, accepting whatever treatment she was offered in order to give her more time with her friends and family. Iain is running each of the seven marathons in honour of every year that Rachael fought the disease.
